Dwarf Mulberry Bush – Charlotte Russe ‘Matsunaga’ Wins RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant Of The Year 2017!

Grassroots PR client, Suttons have won a prestigious award with their Dwarf Mulberry Bush Charlotte Russe ‘Matsunaga’ at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2017!
I started the contact process way back in November and had been liaising with both the HTA and Peter Seabrook to get this unique plant onto his display in the Great Pavilion. I was even more delighted when Peter selected it as one of his entries into the awards.
The Chelsea Plant Of The Year competition highlights the very best new plants of the year. Judges looked for novelty, originality, horticultural excellence and real impact in the specimen entered. A plant with the real Wow factor!
In addition, consideration was given to the wider public appeal and ease of cultivation long term, which is exactly what Suttons Dwarf Mulberry Bush delivers. Suttons MD David Robinson said “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award for an exceptional plant. “
Initial sales and public perception have been superb and the first release sold out in just two weeks. And it’s no surprise given its properties.
This bush not only produces juicy, nutritious seedless fruit that are rarely seen in shops, but its unique compact form (up to 1.5 m) makes it ideal for small gardens or even pots on a patio and is incredibly easy to grow.
Fruiting in its first year from June to September, on new and old wood, ensures an extended fruit bounty. It is self-fertile and requires the minimum of pruning just to keep its shape.
It was gratifying that Peter Seabrook and the HTA, had such faith and belief in Suttons Dwarf Mulberry Bush.
